Learn. Connect. Immerse.
Five years in, we know something about our festival visitors. They are Ukrainians and ‘wannabes.’ They are young and old and everything in between. They come as multi-generational family groups, couples, individuals. They come for nostalgic reasons or for first-time exposure to the rich Ukrainian culture. Baba and Dido want to be sure their kids and grandkids understand where they came from and why it’s important. Our visitors love that we combine serious learning opportunities with moments of fun…think the Kurka Krap Kontest or Perogy Dance Lessons. The learning is possible through hands-on workshops or by observing experts.
Our visitors come from big cities, small towns, farms in Alberta and beyond. They love the small town safety and friendliness delivered without pretension. They love the great value we offer: free admission, free borshch samples, chances to win, and Zabava ticket prices that haven’t increased since Day One.
Our visitors use the festival to connect with family and friends, experts and locals. They begin to understand the depth and breadth of talent in the Ukrainian community and the unparalleled contribution made to the Canadian way of life.
